Entire economies and empires have revolved around this plant and its mysterious ability to dye blue. Come learn about the history of Indigo, how to make an Indigo vat, and dyeing techniques from many cultures such as shibori and katazome from Japan and tie and dye from Africa. Each student will work on experimenting and creating designs on cotton. I will provide some simple cotton scarves and handkerchiefs to practice on and students may bring a small natural fiber item from home to dye. We will focus on skill building rather than volume dyeing.

$10 materials fee, paid directly to the instructor
