Using your own original hand-made paper will connect you to your work in a new and exciting way. In this class we will be moving beyond the conventional idea of cut and pasted photos from magazines. The details you will be creating by using a variety of patterns and color combinations  as well as incorporating lights and darks and different textures, then layering for depth and interest will further enhance your expressive freedom.

We will use a variety of mono-printing techniques. We will begin by making templates from incised foam, then applying color using paints and/or inks, then stamping these onto papers of your choice. Another technique we will use is to create your own stencils then adding paint and stamping. And finally, we will experiment with Gelli Plates making more beautiful designs.

Through this process of experimentation you will gather a colorful stash of textural and individual materials to build your unique collage.

The final step will be to design a collage. You can sketch out your idea, consider your composition, and think about the colors and papers you want to use.

Practice being playful and experimental in manipulating your materials in new and unexpected ways may become a refreshing and inspirational addition to your art practice.
