Roy Lichtenstein was one of the most influential and innovative artists of the second half of the twentieth century. He is preeminently identified with Pop Art, a movement he helped originate, and his first fully achieved paintings, rendered in a style mimicking the crude printing processes of newspaper reproduction, were based on imagery from comic strips and advertisements. There is great variety to his five thousand works and we will see creations beyond these early celebrated images. Carol will also demonstrate, how he turned to various European masters and exuberant canvases inspired by the artists he admired, such as Picasso, Monet, and Matisse.
