Book Arts Workshop with Suzi Banks Baum

September 17 and 18, Saturday and Sunday 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
$325 non-members, $295 members

This two day workshop is dedicated to the creation of book art. Participants will create two soft covered hand bound journals using the Coptic Stitch binding technique. This ancient binding style, developed by the Egyptians Copts, is the first book form that allows a book to open flat for ease. On the first day you will make a paste paper, a colorful and intuitive process as a technique for patterning decorative papers. On the second day you will assemble and sew the book bindings. By the end of the workshop, each person will have created at least one Coptic Stitch soft covered journal, as both a functional and an aesthetic art form. From the tactile to the tangible, participants will find this to be an engaging and immersive experience. *All materials are included in the cost of the workshop.
