Art, Assemblage & Reading: ASCC’s Free Community Read Art Program at Roe Jan Library

assemblage tea boxWhat can you create out of metal, string, old maps and lost keys?

What message do you have to share?

Where will you hide your special message in your artwork?

Who will find it?

Join us on March 4, 2017 for ASCC’s Community Read 2017 program: ART comes to The City of Ember.  We will be exploring the art form of assemblage – a form of sculpture based on collecting and grouping found objects – and hiding a secret message with a key that unlocks a secret within our creations. Like the characters in The City of Ember, we will explore how upcycling and re-using can help us discover whole new ways of seeing our world.

The free art program is held at the Roe Jan Library (9091 NY-22, Copake NY), on Saturday March 4  from  10:30 am-12:30 pm (snow date Saturday March 11 – please call the library in the event of bad weather to see if the program is running: 325-4101).

This free program is open to Taconic Hills CSD students in grades 4-8 who are participating in reading The City of Ember as part of the Community Read project. As a special bonus, there are free take-home art kits for all participating students to continue the learning and creating at home.  Pre-registration is recommended to reserve your take-home art kit; call the library at 325-4101.

assemblage3This free community outreach program is presented and taught by the faculty of ASCC in collaboration with the Roeliff Jansen Community Library, Claverack Public Library, and Philmont Public Library.
