At our semi-annual Members’ art show on November 10, we were honored to announce that faculty member Maj Kalfus is the recipient of ASCC’s Award for Excellence in Teaching for 2018.
As testified to by the many students she has taught, Maj is a master of many media, has a welcoming teaching style with rich art historical context, and for encouraging exploration in her students. Maj has been a part of ASCC since 2014. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City, as well as classes at the School of Visual Arts. She also participated
in the Studio Arts Program at SUNY Empire State College and has exhibited extensively. Her cartoons were featured in the New Yorker’s Cartoons of the Year (2014).
ASCC’s newly elected Board President Karen Martin also updated attendees on ASCC’s Capital Campaign. Thanking the community for their support to date, she shared that ASCC must raise a remaining $2500 in its Capital Fund and $9500 for its Annual Fund by December 31, 2018 to receive the gift of the historic 1880 schoolhouse they now occupy. If we are not able to do so, we must move. “We are going to make this donation happen” Martin shared and invited community members to reach out to any donors they may know.
Tax-deductible donations may be made by mailing them to ASCC or via our website. The Members’ Show is the largest exhibit to date at ASCC, and gallery hours are Thursdays 9-5 and December afternoons from 12-4 pm. Artworks are available for purchase, and a portion of all art sales helps ASCC meet its funding goals. Your support to help us have a home is greatly appreciated!
